There is plenty of chatter about mothballs repelling mice, snakes and rats in and around you home, but are the rumors true?
Let’s take a look at the facts. First bit of information is that using a product in a way that is not recommended on the EPA label is illegal and is considered dangerous. With the freedom of internet and publications there is tons of false information and application recommendations out there.
Some of the recommended products are moth balls, ammonia, cat urine, peppermint oil, ultrasonic sound machines, human hair, and the list goes on and on. But none of these items work, the only way to prevent mice and rats is to perform exclusion and prevent them from entering your home to begin with.

There are plenty of videos on YouTube that show people trying all these types of items as repellents and again even when they use 60 moth balls in an areas, the mice are not affected. We could not tolerate living in a room that had 60 moth balls, but mice have no problems.
So to recap, mothballs do not repel mice. The only way to prevent and eliminate is to perform exclusion and trapping in your home.
